Having access to quality lectures is the basis of any training. In countries suffering from a shortage of schools and skilled teachers, it appears therefore necessary to make sure that training content be available in local language. We have therefore undertaken the creation of a Multimedia Training Content database. Regularly we enrich it with new multimedia content in Khmer:videos, slide show, handbooks, exercises, tests, corrections and even simulation software for practical works. We record skilled local teachers “live”, we digitize handwritten handbooks. The major benefit of a digital recording is that it can be reproduced in very large numbers at very little cost.
This e-learning platform has multiple benefits: · Facilitate self learning for local volunteer teachers . Enable an insufficiently trained teacher to still deliver quality training · Enable a local community to start a new training which they would not have undertaken otherwise. · Compensate for sudden teachers attrition which is a recurring problem in those countries · Be accessible to a large audience with a clear structured pedagogy.
To date, our data base comprises the following trainings in Khmer: · Computer Basics (animated slide show with audio explanations) · High school pedagogical manuals for Grades 10, 11 and 12 for the following topics: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, including lessons, exercises and simulation software · Electrical house wiring (“how to” videos) · Motorbike repair (“how to” videos) · English (interactive audio/ video exercises handled by native speakers)
